The first edition of the International Conference on Statistics and Applied Economics (CISEA) opened on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the Institute on Statistics and Applied Economics (ENSEA) in Abidjan, under the theme "Drivers of structural transformation in Africa".
The objective of this international conference is, according to the initiators, of crucial importance for the economies of sub-Saharan Africa. Organized as part of the African Centre of Excellence (ACE) project initiated by the African Development Bank (AfDB), this conference brings together researchers from Africa and around the world.
This edition, according to Hugues Kouadio, Director of Ensea, will present articles and publications on Africa's structural transformation and also discuss the implications of this theme for the economic policies of African countries. "It aims to make scientific recommendations to support decision-makers in the development of public policies," he says.
Mr Yeo Nahoua, Chief of staff of the Ministry of Planning and Development, representing Minister Kaba Nialé, expressed the joy of the Ivorian authorities at the choice of Côte d'Ivoire to host the meeting. For him, this high-level conference is a "unique opportunity to create a space for sharing between scientists from the North and the South, and between planning experts".
During these three days, the debates will be marked by panels focusing on the state of play and the analysis of the levers of structural transformation in Africa. Several sessions on statistical methodology, social sciences, and a conference on the role of cooperation in research development in Africa, among others, have also been planned.
